Ever since Google’s acquisition of Fitbit for $2.1 billion in November 2019, there’s been speculation about the potential changes under this new ownership.

The anticipated transition to Google logins for Fitbit accounts materialized in September 2022 as confirmed by the technology company. By the beginning of 2025, all Fitbit users must migrate their accounts to Google.

Now, Google introduces another significant modification to Fitbit, reshaping the app to prioritize personal touches, straightforward accessibility, and user convenience.

Fitbit has restructured its content into three primary tabs – Today, Coach, and You. Each is tailored to deliver distinct insights, contributing to a seamless and engaging user interface.

The Today tab is your daily dashboard. It shows all the stats that you deem most pertinent, structured to provide a quick overview. Tailored to your preferences, this tab allows you to pick what appears on your screen and tracks your health metrics over time to monitor monthly progress.

The Coach tab serves up custom workout plans, various courses, and mindfulness sessions, all of which can be filtered by your available time, equipment at hand, and personal fitness ambitions. Access to the full suite of training sessions requires a subscription, as with Fitbit’s previous iteration.

The You tab is your personal progress diary filled with updated stats, accomplishments, and badges. It also provides the avenue for tweaking settings and linking up with fellow Fitbit enthusiasts.

Ultimately, this latest refresh has significantly polished the Fitbit app, rendering it more accessible and user-friendly. Although Google’s recent mandate that Fitbit users will need to transition to Google accounts led to some user dismay, this revamp may be the fresh start necessary to restore faith in the Fitbit brand and its future.
