Introducing Five Bauhaus Masterpieces
As of now, Typekit offers two of these fonts: Joost Schmidt, a key figure behind the school’s typographic vision during 1925–1932, has his ethos captured in the new alphabet ‘Joschmi’, meticulously crafted by Flavia Zimbardi from Schmidt’s original six-letter outlines. Xanti Schwinsky’s diverse forays into various design media are honored by Luca Pellegrini’s ‘Xants’, which resurrects Schwinsky’s aesthetic for contemporary application, complete with all necessary punctuation and symbols. Anticipated additions will include three more fonts celebrating the work of Bauhaus luminaries: Alfred Arndt’s typographic posters find a new voice through Céline Hurka’s revival. Reinhold Rossig’s prolific and experimental designs are brought back to life by Hermann Werner and Elia Preuss. Finally, Carl Marx’s blend of Bauhaus design and Kandinsky’s artistic influence is reimagined by Hidetaka Yamasaki.
Adobe’s Creative Tribute Through Competition
Adobe rallies the creative community with a series of five design contests, starting with a logo challenge using the revived Bauhaus fonts. Participants are to endorse their creations on social media using the tags #AdobeHiddenTreasures and #contest. Winners will receive enticing prizes, including a MacBook Pro, Creative Cloud subscriptions, and for the overall champion, a paid journey to the historic Bauhaus Dessau in Germany, capped with a feature in a special exhibition. Competitions extend to undertake projects like posters, business cards, and homepage designs.
