The Indian Type Foundry (ITF) recently unveiled Fontshare, an innovative typography platform that offers a variety of premium fonts at no cost, aiming to enhance the visual appeal of corporate communications across the board.
Those accustomed to Google Fonts will find Fontshare comfortably similar. The user-friendly service allows you to easily select and integrate a variety of typefaces into your web projects.
Fontshare’s platform is impeccably designed, complete with features like versatile browsing via list or grid layouts, customizable text previews, and interactive tools for testing type arrangements.
Users can implement Fontshare’s fonts through two methods: linking directly to Fontshare’s API or downloading the typefaces in OTF, WOFF, and WOFF2 formats to host themselves—particularly advisable while the reliability of Fontshare’s CDN remains unproven in the early stages.
All fonts available on Fontshare are ITF’s own creations, and there are no current intentions to expand the collection with offerings from other foundries. Although this means a smaller selection compared to Google Fonts, the quality and craftsmanship of Fontshare’s typesets are superior. ITF proudly displays its typeface designs down to the outline details, allowing users to scrutinize the elegance of each curve.
Fontshare’s library starts with 50 distinct typefaces, and ITF commits to releasing 25% of its Latin-script fonts absolutely free of charge. This magnanimous offering stands to greatly enrich the resource pool for designers and creatives everywhere.
